WHAT WE BELIEVE

New Heights Church is a ministry of the Church of God with international offices in Cleveland, TN.  For more information about the Church of God, visit the Church of God International Websites.

We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Bible.

  • In one God eternally existing in three persons: namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to Heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.

  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.

  • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the   blood of Jesus Christ.

  • In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ, through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.

  • Holiness to be God’s standard for living for His people.

  • In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.

  • In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

  • In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

  • Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.

  • In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saints’ feet.

  • In the pre-millennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.

  •  In the bodily resurrection, eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO?

WHY DO WE STAND TO SING?

And the Levites, and the Korahites, stood up to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.

(2 Chronicles 20:19)

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was then thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:11,12)

WHY DO WE LIFT OUR HANDS?

Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, And bless the Lord. (Psalm 134:2)

I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; (I Timothy 2:8)

WHY DO WE ANOINT WITH OIL AND PRAY FOR THE SICK?

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. (James 5:14,15)

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE THE LORD’S SUPPER?

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (Acts 1:42, 26-47)

WHY DO WE HAVE AUDIBLE PRAISE TO GOD?

Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! (Psalm 103:1)

After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!”…And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” (Revelation 1:1,6)

Why we Pray/Sing in Tongues and in English?

“For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will SING WITH MY SPIRIT, but I will also SING WITH MY MIND.” – (1 Corinthians 14:14,15)

WHAT DO PEOPLE SPEAK OUT, READ SCRIPTURE OR PRAY OUT LOUD?

So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,” (Acts 4:24)

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. (I Corinthians 14:3)

“What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.” (I Corinthians 14:26)

WHY DO WE SING CHORUSES AS WELL AS HYMNS?

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:18,19)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)

WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS?

Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph! (Psalm 47:1)

Why do we Dance?

“Praise His name in the dance.” (Psalms 149:3)
“David danced before the Lord with all his might.” – (2 Sam. 6:14)

WHY ARE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS A PART OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE?

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! (Psalm 150:3-5)

WHY DO WE PRACTICE FREEDOM IN WORSHIP?

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit , and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:23,24)
